Floodplain Mapping Knowledge Transfer Workshop

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Grand River Conservation Authority, Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority, Conservation Ontario and the Ontario Branch of the Canadian Water Resources Association are hosting the second annual Floodplain Mapping Knowledge Transfer Workshop on March 8 & 9, 2017 in Guelph, Ontario at the Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre (50 Stone Road West, Guelph, ON, N1G 0A9).

This workshop will showcase examples and pilot projects that demonstrate innovative techniques and advancements related to the technical components of floodplain mapping: base mapping, hydrology and hydraulics, as well as risk assessment and flood forecasting and warning.  It will also provide expertise and insight to support projects related to the National Disaster Mitigation Program (NDMP). Participants will leave this workshop having increased their technical knowledge and broadened their professional network.  The projects presented are diverse and include perspectives from Alberta, Ontario's near-north, the Greater Toronto Area, and southern Ontario.

East Bayfront Technical Tour and Ontario Branch Annual General Meeting

Please join us on a guided walking tour of the East Bayfront neighbourhood, along the Toronto waterfront on May 5th, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, followed by the Ontario Branch Annual General Meeting, to be held at Against The Grain Urban Tavern (25 Dockside Drive, Toronto) from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.  Tour stops will include Sherbourne Common, Water's Edge Promenade and Sugar Beach, which have transformed a former industrial area into much needed public greenspace on the lake.  Unique perspectives will be provided from individuals involved in the design of the neighbourhood's innovative stormwater management system and aquatic habitat restoration features that have made this part of the Toronto waterfront a prime destination for urban anglers.

World Water Day 2016 Toronto Event

On March 22nd , in celebration of World Water Day, CWRA Ontario presents a panel discussion and networking event on the theme of, Water and Jobs:  Historical Perspectives and Future Directions, at 6:00PM at the Textile Museum of Canada (55 Centre Ave.) in Toronto. 


 

World Water Day 2016 Ottawa Event

On March 22nd, CWRA Ontario, Blue Drinks Ottawa and the Canadian Water Network present a panel discussion and networking event on the theme of, Working with Water: From Source to Tap, at 6:00PM at the International Joint Commission’s Ottawa office (234 Laurier Ave West, 22nd floor).  The panel with feature a diverse group of water professionals and be followed by a water tasting activity and door prizes.

Floodplain Mapping Tech - Transfer Workshop

The Ontario Branch "Ontario Flood Mapping Technical Working Group" is pleased to host the first annual Tech-Transfer Workshop. This workshop will examine the status of floodplain mapping in Ontario and present the results from the first set of a series of projects that examine modern, efficient processes for three tech-nical components of floodplain map-ping: Base Mapping, Hydrology and Hydraulics.

 General and Advanced HEC-RAS River Hydraulics Modelling Workshops

November 2 to 4, 2015, 8:00-4:30, Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Parkway, Toronto

These river hydraulics modelling workshops are designed for both beginning and advanced water resources specialists, hydrologists and hydraulic engineers who wish to learn how to use the latest version of HEC-RAS for Windows software.  Topics covered include techniques for modelling bridges, dams, spillways and other storage areas in the steady and unsteady flow environments and an introduction to river water quality modelling. Some prior knowledge and experience with HEC-RAS is helpful, but not required.  Details and registration information are provided in the workshop flyer
