April 27, 2022 12-1PM: ON Branch Webinar: Applied Research in Practice, Watershed Delineation and Floodplain Mapping
Join us as two PhD Candidates present some of their tools developed for improving the state of hydrology and hydraulics practice in Canada. This webinar is designed to mobilize the transfer of knowledge from academia into practice, and will showcase tools for addressing watershed delineation and floodplain mapping, respectively.
Ming Han is a PhD Candidate at the University of Waterloo, and will be presenting on the tools and data products he has developed through his research to address the topic of watershed delineation. This includes the data products with existing watershed delineations in North America, and the toolbox BasinMaker for delineating watersheds and working with the existing routing products. More information can be found on the BasinMaker documentation page.
Blair Scriven is a PhD Candidate at the University of Calgary, with a focus on research in floodplain mapping methods. His research involves applying the Height Above Nearest Drainage (HAND) model as a method for creating rapid floodplain maps, and deriving synthetic rating curves to translate discharge into water depths for mapping. Blair received the Esri Canada’s Esri Young Scholars Award in 2021 for his work in this field. More information on the use of synthetic rating curves for the HAND Model can be found in the linked publication below.
Both presenters will give short presentations about their research and their tools, with time for Q&A from the audience.
