Feb. 17th, 2023 @ 12:30 – 1:30 pm CST- Winnipeg SYP Event: Towards a sustainable future: “Are we hydrologically ready for a changing climate?” with Dr. Chandra Rajulapati

In Archived Event, Archived SYP Event, Archived Webinars

What: Winnipeg SYP Event (for UManitoba Students & Faculty)

Speaker: Dr. Chandra Rajulapati, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Dr. Rajulapati is an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba in the Civil Engineering Department. She focuses on developing statistical methods and probabilistic tools for hydro-climatological applications. She works on understanding historical and future changes in hydroclimatic variables at different spatial and temporal scales, modelling extreme events such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves, and assessing risk for disaster management and mitigation.

When: Friday February 17th @ 12:30 – 1:30 pm CST

Where: EITC E2-125 @the University of Manitoba

About:

This presentation will cover how climate change is impacting hydro-meteorological variables such as
precipitation, and temperature over the globe, in Canada, and in urban areas. Historical and projected changes in
extreme events (such as floods, droughts, heat and cold waves, and wildfires) and corresponding impacts
on humans in the future are discussed. Adaptation and mitigation strategies to handle changing extreme
events at provincial and national levels are highlighted. Uncertainty at different levels, from the data to
the decisions, and the corresponding impacts of uncertainty in adaptation are shown in a case study.
The talk ends with highlighting the requirement of sustainable leadership to combat climate change.

PIZZA WILL BE PROVIDED!
