Abstract:

The global risk associated with coastal flooding and erosion has increased substantially over the past several decades, as a consequence of population growth, development in coastal zones, and climate change effects including sea-level rise. There is a large and growing body of evidence surrounding the benefits of natural and nature-based solutions as viable alternatives or complements to conventional (hard) engineering shore protection measures. This presentation will highlight recent physical modelling research studies conducted by the National Research Council of Canada to investigate nature-based solutions in coastal engineering.
