Oct. 31st – Nov. 10th: 2023 CSHS Principles of Hydrology Short Course
Event Location: Barrier Lake Field Station, Biogeoscience Institute Kananaskis Valley, Alberta
Event Dates/Times: The course runs every day from October 31, 2023 – November 10, 2023 (Participants are asked to arrive at the research station by 7:00 PM on Monday, October 30th for an orientation session given by the Barrier Lake Field Station staff).
About: The University of Saskatchewan Centre for Hydrology, with the assistance of the Canadian Society for Hydrological Sciences, is offering an intensive course on the physical principles of hydrology with particular relevance to Canadian conditions. The course is led by Dr. John Pomeroy, Canada Research Chair in Water Resources & Climate Change, and taught by Dr. Pomeroy and a team of subject-matter experts.

- Micrometeorology & Precipitation
- Interception & Evapotranspiration
- Snow Accumulation and Redistribution
- Snowmelt and Snowcover Depletion
- Glaciers & River Ice Formation
- Groundwater Hydrology
- Infiltration & Soil Water
- Hillslope and Catchment Hydrology
- River Networks, Hydraulics & Hydrographs

Transportation: Participants can take a shuttle to and/or from the Calgary Airport to the Barrier Lake Field Station at a cost of $25 per direction ($50 for round trip). Participants will need to be at the Calgary Airport by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 30th to meet the shuttle. Participants will depart the Barrier Lake Field Station at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 11th (arriving at the Calgary Airport between 10:30 and 11:00 am).
Accommodations and Meals: All accommodations and meals are included in the cost of registration. Please inform us if you have dietary restrictions.
Refund Policy: In the event a registrant decides to withdraw: CSHS will refund all money, minus $1000, up until 14 days prior to the start of the course. Within 14 days of the start of the course, no refund will be provided.
