Ratified in 2019, the Treaty #3 Nibi Declaration shares the relationship with water (Nibi) and responsibilities that the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 hold. The principles shared in the declaration provide guidance in the assertion of these responsibilities and ensures that the spirit of Nibi is centered in all decision making and water governance. The Nibi Declaration ratification, mirrored the Anishinaabe Law Making process through Manito Aki Inakonigaawin guided by the Treaty #3 Women’s Council and authorized by the entirety of the Nation. The Nibi Declaration is also a guiding document to support each person in their journey of understanding their relationship to water and the implementation of responsibilities for water protection in Treaty #3. Implementation includes Nibi Curriculum, Signs, Water Walks, etc.
