March 2, 2022 5:30 pm EST: McMaster SYP – The Randle Reef Project with Roger Santiago

What:

The McMaster SYP chapter of the CWRA is hosting Roger Santiago to discuss details about the Randle Reef project in Hamilton Harbour.  Located in the southwest corner of Hamilton Habour, the Randle Reef site is approximately 60 hectares (or about 120 football fields) in size. It is the largest PAH-contaminated sediment site on the Canadian Great Lakes. During this webinar, we will learn about the history, design, construction process, dredging process, water quality monitoring, challenges, and more regarding the Randle Reef Project. Followed by a Q&A session with Roger.

 

Speaker: Roger Santiago

Roger is the Head of the Sediment Remediation Unit at Environment and Climate Change Canada. He has represented Canada at the NATO Science Team Meeting in Slovenia on Management of Contaminated Sediment Sites and for the past twenty years has participated as a guest lecturer on the Canadian experience in managing contaminated sediment at the Dredge Engineering Short Course at Texas A & M University. Today, he leads one of Canada’s largest multi-million dollar sediment remediation projects in the Great Lakes Basin at Randle Reef in Hamilton, Ontario.
