Position Available: Water Resources Specialist

About the Role:

• The incumbent reviews and approves the technical aspects of functional servicing studies submitted by consulting engineers in support of various Planning Act Applications, such as rezoning, site plan control, and plans of subdivision.

• They provide overall project management for various City projects, including both in-house and consultant-led projects.

• The role involves reviewing studies, agreements, and regulations such as the Sewer Master Plan (SMP), Class Environmental Assessment Study Reports, drainage reports, and servicing agreements, and determining their applicability and resulting requirements for specific projects.

• The position provides functional supervision to drafting, field services, and administration staff for the design and preparation of tender documents.

• The incumbent serves as the primary City contact person for construction projects under City contracts, which includes liaison with outside agencies, interdepartmental stakeholders, and residents.

• They author new servicing and drainage studies, including the preliminary design of services and the creation of hydraulic models using various software applications.

• The position requires performing Occupational Health and Safety duties as outlined in the Corporate Health and Safety Program, along with other related duties as required.

Position Available: Engineering Manager – Hydrotechnical Engineering / Water Resources

Location: Niagara Falls, ON

About the Role:
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a results-driven and experienced Engineering Manager to lead and supervise an engineering team dedicated to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of hydroelectric generating stations and associated facilities. Reporting to the Senior Manager Engineering,the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding technical teams, ensuring the highest standards of engineering practice, and supporting OPG’s commitment to operational excellence and dam safety.

Key Accountabilities:

• Engineering Leadership & Supervision: Lead and supervise engineering teams conducting studies, assessments, inspections, and design evaluations for hydroelectric generating stations and related facilities.

• Technical Oversight & Expertise: Provide expert advice and oversight on maintenance, rehabilitation, design, and construction issues, particularly for dams and hydraulic structures, while representing the organization as a subject matter expert on internal and external committees.

• Hydraulic & Hydrologic Studies: Plan, organize, and direct field studies, modeling, and analyses (both hydrologic and hydraulic) to gather critical data and support dam safety and efficient plant operations.

• Documentation & Approval: Review and approve essential documentation, including procedures, project charters, condition assessments, and technical reports.

• Collaboration & Mentorship: Foster collaboration with various operational groups (e.g., Water Management, Dam Safety) to enhance organizational practices, support work project administration, and provide coaching and mentorship to junior staff.

Location: University of Calgary, Faculty of Science, Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment

About the Role:
The Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2 in the area of Sustainable Soil Science for Food and Water Security. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or in exceptional cases Associate Professor (with tenure), and will be nominated for an NSERC Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. The emerging scholar we seek is expected to develop an innovative soil science research program that supports sustainable agriculture and improves food and water security across scales through advancements in understanding of soil-plant-water interactions. The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2026.

Research Focus:
The CRC will lead innovative, field- and process-based research in areas such as:

• Soil physics, chemistry, fertility, and structure

• Water use efficiency, irrigation, and erosion

• Carbon cycling, salinity, and soil remediation

• Soil health, ecosystem services, and climate resilience

Position Available: Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer (Water Resources Engineer) Reporting to the Plant Technical Support Manager – Hydrotechnical Engineering, this position is responsible to provide technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters within designated area of responsibility for hydroelectric and thermal stations maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead data collection, assessments, inspections, investigations, and design evaluations for works associated with hydroelectric and thermal generating stations and related facilities.
• Provide guidance on maintenance, rehabilitation, design, and construction issues for dams and hydraulic structures.
• Plan and conduct hydraulic field studies to collect data on river, reservoir, and spillway characteristics for safe and efficient station operation.
• Plan and execute hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and studies supporting operations and dam safety.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on internal and external technical committees.
• Prepare and present procedures, instructions, project documentation, business cases, condition assessments, and technical reports.
• Support project administration and mentor junior staff.
• Coordinate with Operations, Water Management, and Dam Safety teams to develop tools and practices improving water management across OPG.
