Presenters Names: Dr. Kevin Lewis, Dr. Ranjan Datta, Dr. Margot Hurlbert
Date: March 11, 2025 12PM CST
Title of Presentation: TBD
About:
This presentation will explore the interconnected relationship between water and land within Cree teachings and worldviews. Focusing on Indigenous land-based knowledge and practices, the presentation will highlight how Cree First Nation communities in Northern Saskatchewan advocate for Indigenous community-led water sovereignty through traditional land-based knowledge, environmental stewardship, and intergenerational knowledge sharing. This approach reframes water as a life, integral to Cree identity and community well-being, challenging colonial frameworks that commodify water. By examining Cree First Nation community-led initiatives for water protection, this presentation offers insights into Indigenous-led approaches for sustainable and just water management that honors both cultural resilience and environmental sustainability.
