About
The Alberta Branch of the CWRA received consent from CWRA National and was formally incorporated in 1981. However, CWRA itself evolved out of the Western Canada Reclamation Association (WCRA) which was established in 1947. The WCRA was formed to promote the development, control, conservation, preservation and utilization of the water resources of Western Canada and became a national organization in 1968, renaming itself CWRA. In observance of the historic ties to Alberta, CWRA National recently celebrated its 70th anniversary with the 2017 National Conference in Lethbridge.
The Alberta Branch currently consists of about 30 Board members and over 150 professionals and students that share in the common goals of promoting responsible water management through planning, development and education.
To accomplish these goals, the Alberta Branch hosts an annual provincial conference to advance themes related to water management and enable members and non-members to network and collaborate. The Branch also hosts a variety of other events, such as one day seminars and webinars, to provide opportunities for members to learn and present their expertise. The Branch also serves the public interest by supporting educational programs such as Project WET and the advancement of students in the water management fields by way of the SYP (Student and Young Professionals) groups.
