About:
The energy transition is underway in Manitoba. How energy is produced, delivered, and consumed is changing. Consumers are making different choices, such as purchasing electric vehicles. Some businesses are taking steps to decarbonize their operations. Governments at all levels are also taking (or contemplating) actions that will further drive this transition.
Many utilities are adopting a more comprehensive and collaborative energy planning process called Integrated Resource Planning (IRP). The 2023 IRP, Manitoba Hydro’s first, is a product of a two-year process to understand the key factors driving change in the Manitoba energy landscape and what that means for the supply and delivery of electricity and natural gas.
Manitoba Hydro’s 2023 IRP sets the bar in understanding how climate change might impact the water supply to our generators, how warmer winters and hotter summers might affect the demand for electricity and how more weather variability and extreme weather events might impact our transmission and distribution systems. This presentation will introduce the plan including the development process, and the road map describing how Manitoba Hydro will monitor, prepare for, and respond to changes in the energy landscape.
