CWRA 2025-2026 Student Design Competition (SDC)

Participants of the CWRA 2025-2026 Student Design Competition (SDC) will tackle a real-world water problem, working in teams to develop innovative solutions. The aim of the competition is to promote practical problem-solving skills, teamwork, and professional development among students from various regions across Canada.

The annual competition, led by CWRA SYP National and CSHS, encourages students to apply their academic knowledge to practical, real-world challenges, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Registration and Timeline

  1. Registration deadline: December 15, 2025
  2. Hard copy of presentation due: April 17, 2026
  3. Virtual presentation: May 1, 2026
  4. Announcement of the winning team to attend the national conference: May 4, 2026
  5. Winning team presents at the 79th CWRA National Conference: June 16–19, 2026. In-person attendance will be encouraged and supported, but virtual attendance will also be available.

Only one team will be selected as the winner and invited to present their project at the 79th CWRA National Conference in Winnipeg, MB. The winning team will be awarded a $2,500 monetary prize, courtesy of AECOM, in recognition of their achievement. In addition, a travel grant will be made available to support the team’s attendance in person at the CWRA National Conference, provided by National SYP. Alternatively, teams may participate virtually by submitting a pre-recorded presentation and joining live for the Q&A sessions.

Eligibility

  1. Participants must be full-time registered undergraduate students at a recognized university or institute.
  2. Teams can represent their respective universities or institutes.
  3. Each team can have a maximum of five members.
  4. Each university or institute can register multiple teams, but each team must work independently.
  5. Each team member must be a student member of CWRA. (Student memberships are free!)
