In Upcoming Event, Upcoming ON, Upcoming Online, Upcoming Webinars

Date & Time: Nov 24, 2025 – 12 PM ET

About:

Join CWRA Ontario for a webinar introducing the Professional Practice Guidelines for the Preparation of One Water System Risk Management Plans — a resource designed to help communities apply integrated risk management across all water systems.

The session will explore the drivers behind the Guidelines, the application of the ISO 31000 risk management framework to reflect One Water principles, and lessons from case studies from municipalities in British Columbia. Presenters will discuss how this approach supports collaboration across disciplines and organizations, and the opportunities and challenges that come with implementing One Water planning in practice.

Presenters:

  • Virginie Brunetaud, P.Ag., CC-P (Climate Strategist, Engineers and Geoscientists BC)
  • Elise Paré, P.Eng. (National Practice Lead, Climate Risk & Resilience, WSP Canada)

Description:

“The historical approach to the regulation of water management is a compliance model focused on technical risks which does not take enterprise-level system risks into account (i.e., resourcing, financial, and climate-related).  The the Professional Practice Guidelines for the Preparation of One Water System Risk Management Plans provide a practical framework for engineers and geoscientists to help communities manage risks across interconnected water systems — including drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, non-potable water, and watershed services. Engineers and Geoscientists BC has released an interim set of professional practice guidelines on One Water System Risk Management that address these issues and provide an effective way for organizations to identify and manage risks that require collaboration and executive decision-making. The Guidelines have been developed based on input from industry, research organizations, municipalities and governments, Indigenous communities and experts across BC.  Tools have been included in the complementary Water System Risk Management Planning Guide to help non-engineering and geoscience professionals in municipalities and water service providers identify risks, strengthen coordination, and enhance resilience in the face of climate change, regulatory pressures, and resource constraints.

This webinar is ideal for professionals involved in water resources management, municipal infrastructure, and climate adaptation who want to learn how to embed integrated, risk-based planning into their practice.”
