This webinar  provides a comprehensive overview of irrigation’s role in sustaining and advancing agricultural production, from its origins in ancient civilizations to modern-day innovations. It traces the development of irrigation in Saskatchewan, from early settlement challenges in the Palliser Triangle to the creation of major water infrastructure like Lake Diefenbaker.  It highlights the growing need for reliable water management in the face of climate variability.

The session the impacts of a changing climate on water availability, and the evolution of irrigation technologies, including pivots, low-pressure systems, and precision tools. It also showcases advancements in irrigation scheduling, satellite monitoring, variable rate irrigation, and crop genetics that are improving efficiency and productivity.

Finally, the presentation highlights the work of Irrigation Saskatchewan, including current initiatives such as water monitoring projects, and underscores the critical role irrigation will play in ensuring resilient, sustainable food production into the future
