- Presenter: Samantha Kerr, Director, Water Resources – Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW)
- Presentation Description: The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW), with support from Canada Water Agency, are developing a State of the Watershed Report for the Athabasca sub-basin to better understand the health of freshwater ecosystems and the freshwater challenges facing communities within the Athabasca sub-basin. Through engagement with Uranium City, Black Lake, Stony Rapids, Fond-du-Lac and Wollaston Lake, the project brings together the knowledge and perspectives of Indigenous Elders, storytellers, community members and youth, respectfully bridging Traditional Knowledge and scientific research to address knowledge gaps and identify freshwater quality stressors. The project will develop a video series highlighting the watershed’s geography, hydrology and community-identified concerns, while sharing beneficial management strategies that can help communities adapt to a changing climate, strengthen freshwater security and protect aquatic ecosystems for future generations.
