November 15-17: On Branch – HEC-RAS 2D Training Session (in-person)

In Archived In-Person, Archived ON, Archived Training, Archived Workshops

The Ontario Branch of the Canadian Water Resources Association is hosting an in-person HEC-RAS 2D training session over three days from November 15-17th. The course will cover topics including background theory and practical applications for building, running, troubleshooting and interpreting 2D HEC-RAS models.

The course price also includes virtual workshop materials before the course to be completed ahead that will bring participants up to speed in using basic 1D HEC-RAS, as well as post-course support from the instructor. Lunch and morning/afternoon refreshments are also provided.

The course will be capped at 24 participants, so register early if you wish to attend. If the course is full and you wish to be placed on a waitlist, please contact us (info@cwra.org) to be placed on a waitlist, and you can be notified if a spot opens up.

Course Itinerary

Day 1 (morning): Model setup, data preparation and GIS introduction

Day 1 (afternoon): Creating Geometry Files (including terrain data use, survey data, breaklines, selecting grid spacing, and refining grids)

Day 2 (morning): Entering Flow Data (boundary conditions, hydrographs, precipitation for rain-on-grid, and initial conditions)

Day 2 (afternoon): Entering and Running Plan Data (optional settings, timesteps, running the model, viewing and exporting results)

Day 3 (morning): Model Troubleshooting and Sensitivities (error logs, handling model instability, calibrating models and sensitivity analysis)

Day 3 (afternoon): Hydraulic Structures and Final Workshop (entering data for structures, terrain data for hydraulic structures, bridge parameters, course closure)

Course Instructor

Krey Price has trained over 800 attendees in 100 separate workshops on two-dimensional hydraulic modelling training courses, in addition to conducting specialised sediment transport, dam break, stochastic hydrology, and water quality modeling courses. Krey’s early career included programming, code-writing, and compiling sediment transport software to interface with HEC applications. Since then, Krey has served as an expert consultant in community workshops to identify and prioritise flood mitigation options for a number of worldwide communities, and spent 15 years of his career building hydraulic models as a contactor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Cost
