Oct 20, 2026: ATL Branch: Special General Meeting

Our Atlantic Branch of the CWRA is converting to a subsidiary organization of the CWRA.  This was an option that was presented at the National level for all Branch organizations, and both the Quebec Branch and our Atlantic Branch opted to pursue it. The conversion will support our Branch by improving liability coverage, reducing financial filing burdens and overall reducing risks to the Branch. There will be no change to day-to-day branch operations or activities.

As discussed at our recent AGM in the spring, in anticipation of the change, the Branch bank account has been dissolved. Going forward, annual budgeting will be approved and funding will be provided by National. The next step is to adopt a Terms of Reference for the Branch which will replace the existing Branch By-Laws. Under the existing Branch By-Laws, any significant change to or dissolution of the By-Laws requires that the motion be adopted and ratified during what is termed as a Special General Meeting, if it is not coinciding with the Annual General Meeting. At least twenty-one days notice is required prior to a Special General Meeting and it must be held within sixty days of this notice.

The attached Terms of Reference have undergone significant review by the Branch Executive and National, but we would like to use the twenty-one days notice timeline to invite the wider branch membership to review the Terms of Reference as well and provide any comments in that period for consideration by the Branch Board of Directors.

For ease of accessibility, this Special General Meeting of the Branch will be held virtually using the CWRA National Zoom account. An invitation link to this Special General Meeting will be forthcoming and will be set for October 20, 2026 at 12pm (Atlantic Daylight Time).
