CWRA Alberta   –   IAH-CNC 2025 Conference

Edmonton – University of Alberta Lister Centre

November 12-14, 2025

Keynote Speaker – Transdisciplinary PhD student Emily Quecke

What role does connection play in water stewardship? Water is both essential and inherently interconnected—linking ecosystems and communities. This interconnectedness is key to addressing the growing complexity of water insecurity, particularly in equity-denied communities. Working with water transects multiple disciplines and hence requires diverse, integrative, and transdisciplinary solutions. Traditional siloed approaches in research and management have proven insufficient to tackle water insecurity challenges. Instead, we must integrate diverse technical expertise across water systems with social innovation, policy reform, and inclusive governance.

This keynote explores how transdisciplinary and community-based collaborations can foster more sustainable and context-sensitive solutions for water stewardship. Transdisciplinary PhD student Emily Quecke presents the challenges and opportunities of working across disciplines in collaborative ‘mixing zones’, where diverse knowledge systems converge. By reframing water stewardship as a collaborative and inclusive process, we can better respond to the urgent and evolving demands of water security in diverse communities.

We send out updates in a timely manner for the various events we hold. Our event dates change from year to year, and depend on our responsibilities to our national CWRA community as well as current topics of interest to the Alberta water resources community. We have previously hosted provincial and national conferences, webinars, forums, SYP (Students and Young Professionals) Blue Drinks, river clean-ups, BBQs, and in-person meetings for the Alberta Branch Directors.
