Topic: An Update on the Development of Technical Recommendations and
Guidelines for Regional-Scale Flood Hazard Modelling and Mapping in Canada

Description:

In recent years Canada has experienced large-scale regional flooding, exposing Canadians to severe public safety risks and hazards, while having profound impacts on economic activity and the natural and built environment. While detailed flood hazard mapping studies provide a very high level of detail and the lowest uncertainty in the resulting flood hazard extents, these studies are very resource intensive, requiring significant costs, time, and technical expertise, and are therefor impractical to implement. This presentation will provide an overview of ongoing research and applications of regional scale flood hazard mapping in Canada, the draft technical recommendations and guidelines that have been prepared for regional-scale flood hazard mapping, as well as preliminary insights from the ongoing case studies.
