January 22-25, 2024: ON Branch: Culvert Design Training Course

 In Upcoming Event, Upcoming ON

January 22 – 25, 2023 (3.5 days)

9 am – 4 pm for the first 3 days, 9 am – 12 pm on the fourth day

Event Location:

Virtual Platform: Adobe Connect Classroom. A link will be provided a week before the training. Dual monitors can be helpful, but not necessary. Adobe Connect does use a lot of bandwidth, so a good internet connection is helpful.

The online course covers a range of design topics, including allowable headwater at the inlet, permissible outlet velocity, energy dissipation measures, aquatic organism passage, mechanisms of culvert failures, and repair and rehabilitation options.

Online course topics include culvert design principles and procedures and debris control structures.

Throughout the online course, participants engage in a number of workshops where problems are completed, both long-hand and with a computer using the free public FHWA HY-8 Culvert Hydraulic Analysis and Design Program.

Additionally, a video demonstration of a portable hydraulic flume is set up for the participants to observe hydraulic principles associated with various culvert configurations, aquatic organism passage features, and culvert linings.
