Flood Risk Maps are geographical representations that indicate and display the likelihood and severity of flooding in a given area for a given return period flood. These maps provide valuable information for governments, communities and individuals helping them understand the risk of flooding should a major flood develop. Manitoba started developing flood risk maps since 1976. Recently, with joint funding between the Province and Canada, flood risk map is being developed for several watersheds across Manitoba. This presentation outlines the historic context of the mapping work and describes the current work and future planned activities.
